Finished Product Testing in Pharmaceuticals
A practical guide to finished-product quality testing—from assay, dosage-unit uniformity and dissolution to microbiological quality, sterility, endotoxins and visible particles.
Finished-product testing at a glance
Finished-product testing evaluates defined quality attributes of a dosage form using approved methods and acceptance criteria. The applicable tests depend on dosage form, product specification, compendial requirements, marketing authorization and the quality system. No single acceptance limit or test panel applies to every medicine.

Finished-product testing: quick answers
Do the same release tests apply to every finished product?
No. The test panel and criteria depend on dosage form, approved specification, applicable monograph and regulatory commitments.
What is method suitability?
It is evidence that the selected procedure can work as intended with the product matrix, including appropriate recovery or control performance where applicable.
What should happen when a result is OOS?
Follow the laboratory's approved OOS procedure, preserve the original data and samples, perform a documented investigation and base any retesting or resampling on a scientifically justified plan.
