Understanding Bulk Density

The bulk density of tablets depends on their weight, shape, and dimensions. Small, round tablets typically have higher density compared to large, oblong tablets because they pack more closely together, filling void spaces more efficiently.

Density (d) = Mass (m) ÷ Volume (v)

Procedure: Use a calibrated measuring cylinder, add a known weight of tablets, and record the volume occupied. Higher bulk density means more tablet weight can fit in a coating pan of the same capacity.

Note: For more accurate results, use larger measuring containers (5L measuring jar recommended).
