To calibrate the equipment for reliable and accurate results.
SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to the UV Cabinet, installed in the quality control department.

PROCEDURE
For 254 nm
  • Prepare a 0.04% w/v solution of sodium salicylate in ethanol (95%)
  • Apply 5µl of this solution on Silica gel G with a diameter of about 5mm and examine visually.
  • The distance between the lamp and the plate under examination used in a Pharmacopeial test should not exceed the distance used to carry out the above test.
  • The lamp should be capable of revealing without doubt a standard spot of sodium salicylate.
For 366 nm
  • Prepare a 0.2% w/v solution of sodium salicylate in ethanol (95%)
  • Apply 5µl of this solution on Silica gel with a diameter of about 5mm and examine visually.
  • The distance between the lamp and the plate under examination used in a Pharmacopeial test should not exceed the distance used to carry out the above test.
  • The lamp should be capable of revealing without doubt a standard spot of sodium salicylate.
Frequency: Once in 3 months.
