Maintaining high standards of personnel hygiene is critical in the medical device industry to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance. This SOP outlines the hygiene protocols for all staff to prevent contamination within our office and warehouse premises.
1. Purpose of Hygiene Protocols
The primary objective of this procedure is to mitigate the risk of biological or physical contamination of medical devices. By adhering to strict personnel hygiene guidelines, we ensure that every product handled in our Lahore facility meets safety and quality standards.
2. Scope and Applicability
This policy is mandatory for all employees, contractors, and visitors at the Aika Ceuticals warehouse and office locations.
3. Roles and Responsibilities
To maintain a sterile and safe environment, specific oversight is assigned:
- Admin Officer: Responsible for conducting regular inspections and ensuring all staff members comply with the established hygiene standards.
4. Operational Procedures for Personnel Hygiene
All employees must adhere to the following daily hygiene practices to maintain a professional and contaminant-free workspace:
Personal Grooming & Cleanliness
- Daily Routine: Employees must arrive at work clean, having bathed, brushed their teeth, and washed their hair.
- Hand Care: Fingernails must be kept trimmed, filed, and clean. Long or jagged nails can harbor bacteria or damage medical device packaging.
Handwashing Requirements
Handwashing is the most effective way to prevent cross-contamination. Hands must be washed immediately after:
- Using the restroom.
- Handling contaminated items.
- Smoking, eating, or drinking.
- Sneezing, coughing, or blowing your nose.
Wound Care and Skin Infections
- Minor Injuries: Any cuts, burns, or boils must be completely covered with a waterproof bandage.
- Serious Lesions: Employees with severe skin conditions or open sores are prohibited from handling finished products until the condition has fully healed.
Illness and Communicable Disease Policy
To protect our supply chain and workforce, employees exhibiting the following symptoms or conditions are restricted from the warehouse area:
- Symptomatic Illness: Fever, diarrhea, sore throat, persistent coughing, vomiting, or flu-like symptoms.
- Communicable Diseases: Employees diagnosed with (or carrying) infectious diseases—including Tuberculosis, Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitis, Measles, or Jaundice—must report their condition and seek medical clearance before returning to work.
5. Compliance and Corrective Action
Adherence to personnel hygiene is a condition of employment. Any employee found in violation of these procedures will undergo immediate re-training as a corrective action to ensure future compliance and product safety.
