Scope: This procedure is applicable to ..........

Responsibility: Production Chemist

                           To supervise the activity

Procedure:

For starting the Boiler:

1. Check the level of fuel oil tank & soft water tank & open the tank valve.

2. Check that main steam stop valve is closed.

3. Open the by pass valve.

4. Check that economizer drainage valve & blow down valve is closed.

5. Start the main switch of boiler control panel.

6. Turn the FILL/FIRE selection knob on FILL position.

7. Check that water pump is open & flow of water through steam by pass valve.

8. Turn the FILL/FIRE knob on FIRE position.

9. Check that blower & oil pump is started or not.

10. After 5 to 7 seconds, burner indicates flame on light panel. Check the flame through eyeglass.

11. Check that steam pressure gauge shows the pressure of 4 kg after 4 to 5 min., then slowly stop the steam bypass valve & slowly open the steam stop valve.

For stopping the Boiler:

1. Stop the steam stop valve slowly.

2. The control panel indicates high steam pressure by means of glowing yellow light & blower, water pump & oil pump get stopped.

3. Turn the FILL/FIRE switch to OFF position.

4. Open the blow down valve completely.

5. The steam pressure gauge indicates zero pressure, then stop the blow down valve.

6. Turns the FILL /FIRE switch to FILL position & open the steam bypass valve.

7. Turn the FILL/FIRE switch to OFF position.

7. Open the economizer drain valve for draining of water.

8. Close the fuel oil tank & soft water tank valve.

Precautions

1. Blow down the blower every 4 hours.

2. During immediate start of boiler after being switched off, steam temp must be below 90ºc.

3. To immediately stop the boiler, steam pressure must be below 50ºc.

4. Check the steam pressure & water level during the operation.

5. Check if any black/white smoke appears through chimney.
