SOP For the Cleaning of Equipment's of Microbiology Lab

SOP for cleaning of equipment's of microbiology lab is described in this post which you can follow in the section of microbiological lab.

Objective:

This procedure has been established for cleaning of equipment's of microbiology lab.

Scope:

This procedure is applicable to microbiology lab.

Responsibility:

Microbiologist.

Accountability:

Quality Control Manager.

Procedure:

Autoclave:

First of all switch "OFF" the autoclave and remove all the materials from it.

Discharge used water from autoclave and clean the inner surfaces i.e.

(walls and floor)with 70% IPA solution.

Clean the heating rod with a lint-free cloth and add de-ionized water if not available the RO water containing 10ml 70% IPA solution sufficient to carry out empty run (Total volume of the solution used for carrying empty run must e such that heating rod must e dipped in water even at the end of cycle)

Switch "ON" the autoclave.

Carry out the autoclave at 121oC/15psi/15 minutes, and at the end switched "OFF" the autoclave.

Allow pressure to come down zero, allow it to cool.

After cooling remove the solution and dry the inner side of the autoclave and use autoclave for routine working.

Frequency: Once in a week

Centrifuge Machine:

First of all switch "OFF" the centrifuge machine.

Clean all the surfaces of the centrifuge machine with a clean lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Remove the tubes and wash them properly with detergent and then dry.

Replace the tubes again in centrifuge machine then dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Frequency: Once in a week

Colony Counter:

First of all switch "OFF" the colony counter.

Clean all the surfaces of the counter and its pen and magnifying mirror with a clean lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Frequency: Once in a week

Hot Plate+ Magnetic Stirrer:

First of all switch "OFF" the hot plate.

Clean all the surfaces of the hot plate with a clean lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Frequency: Once in a week

Incubators:

70% IPA must be used for cleaning of incubators.

Clean all the inner and outer surfaces with a lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Switch "OFF" the equipment and remove the materials from incubator, clean and dry the inner area with a 70% IPA disinfectant solution using a lint-free cloth.

At the end, switch "ON" the incubators for normal working.

Frequency: Once in a week

Refrigerator

First of all switch "OFF" the refrigerator and the remove all the materials from the refrigerator

Wipe off the 70% IPA from all the compartments with a clean lint-free cloth.

Dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Transfer all the cultures & materials back in the refrigerator.

Frequency: Once in a week

Vortex Mixer:

First of all switch "OFF" the vortex mixer.

Clean all the surfaces of the vortex mixer with a clean lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Frequency: Once in a week

Weighing Balance:

Remove the plate from weighing balance used for weighing the culture media.

Switch "OFF" the weighing balance

Clean the inner and outer surfaces of the weighing balance with a clean lint-free cloth dipped in 70% IPA solution.

Dry the machine with a clean dry lint free cloth and then switch "ON" for routine use.

Frequency: Once in a week
