Digital Melting point apparatus Calibration SOP




1.0  OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the calibration procedure of Melting point apparatus.
2.0  SCOPE:
This shall be applicable to the Melting point apparatus of Quality Control Instrument Laboratory.
3.0  RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1  Technical Assistant/ Helper.
3.2  Q.C Analyst.
4.0  ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1  Manager-Quality Control.
5.0  MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:
5.1  Melting point apparatus.
5.2  Samples (Vanillin, Acetanilide, Benzoic acid, Phenacetin & Caffeine).
6.0  PROCEDURE:
6.1  Ensure that all the connections of the instrument are proper.
6.2  Switch ON the mains.
6.3  Make sure that the instrument is clean according to SOP.
6.4  Operate the Melting point apparatus according to SOP.
6.5  Check the melting point of the following reference standards:
(Vanillin, Acetanilide, Benzoic acid, Phenacetin & Caffeine).
6.6  Take the reference standards from lowest range to highest range at a time of calibration.
6.7  Record all the results in the calibration record as per annexure-1.
6.8  Record the result on the “Calibration Record”, “Calibration Log Book” & paste the “Calibration Status Sticker” on Melting point apparatus.
6.9  Acceptance criteria:
6.9.1        The melting point of reference substances should be within the standard range.
6.10    Frequency:
6.10.1    Once in a month.
6.11    Maintenance/ repair:
6.11.1    Report any discrepancy observed during calibration or operating the instrument to the dept. Head and notify the defect to utility dept. to rectify the defect. Affix “BREAKDOWN” label on the instrument till it get rectified.
