The second edition of Hospital Pharmacy lists the main features of pharmacy services provided by UK pharmacies. Although the focus is on the National Health Service, the chapters are included in independent works where the needs of patients in other settings do not differ.
This handbook provides information on services and benefits for pre-registrants and undergraduates. It may also be useful for pharmacists who have recently completed other research or for pharmacists in job transition. Physicians looking for training or a general vision in a hospital pharmacy may also decide to develop this book. As with the original letter, we believe the content will be useful to more knowledgeable staff in the UK and beyond. In fact, I hope this book will be useful to anyone who wants to understand how English hospital pharmacy work.
Hospital Pharmacy
The manual is set up in the worksheet. That is, there are sections on purchasing, supply, medical services, prescriptions, etc. For some, these boundaries can be confusing and obscure. For example, the physician's role of ensuring the safe planning and provision of parenteral nutritional supplements is not easily divided into responsibilities. However, I had to group them together somehow, so I took the pragmatic approach. Chapters on education and training, research and development, and the use of technology are included. They affect all aspects of work, but they are also areas where particular skills are required and areas where jobs are created. New sections in the second edition include pharmacists, mental health services, and consultant pharmacists.
Each chapter tries to explain the reason for charging and provides information to help with this. Historical data has been developed, following the terms of the current hospital pharmacy. The authors also discussed the need for a change in the context of the discussion. Some of the main documents suggested further reading to support each chapter. I hope readers will benefit from the previous experience the author has brought to the text and from the fact that this book is one that hospital staff and others can access regularly.
Pharmacy in the acute independent sector
Independent physicians have been the go-to base for medical services for some time. For example, Boot and Company Limited was established in 1883 when the first pharmacy was selected from 1884, and by 1933 there were 1000 Boots stores. Independent hospitals also have a long history, and some, such as King Edward VII's Hospital in London: Sister Agnes (founded in 1899), continue to operate as independent hospitals today. .
Since the creation of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948, there have always been independent staff providing NHS services, the most obvious example being doctors. Although this situation served as a model for over 60 years, the location of independent hospitals did not fit well into the NHS at the time. However, significant changes have taken place over the past decade, including the strengthening of partnerships between the NHS and independent agencies to enable capacity building. In addition, hospital regulations were changed in 2010, with the NHS and independent hospitals being governed by the same rules: the Health Care Policy and Health 20081 is overseen by the Board of Health (CQC).
