Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Carbonate-free Reagent Preparation SOP


Title: Standard operating procedure of Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Carbonate-free.
1.0  OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the procedure of Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Carbonate-free for Laboratory use.
2.0  SCOPE:
This shall be applicable to the Quality Control Laboratory.
3.0  RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1  Q.C Pharmacist.
4.0  ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1  Manager-Quality Control.
4.2  Head of the Q.C Department.
5.0  MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:
5.1  Glassware (one 1000.0ml beaker, one stirrer, one pipette).
5.2  Magnetic stirrer.
5.3  500.0g of Sodium Hydroxide R.
5.4  Carbon-dioxide-free water q.s.
6.0  PROCEDURE:
6.1  Accurately weigh 500.0g of Sodium Hydroxide R, by using weighing balance.
6.2  Take a beaker of 1000.0ml.
6.3  Add 500.0g of Sodium Hydroxide R in it.
6.4  Add sufficient quantity of Carbon-dioxide-free water R, by using magnetic stirrer.
6.5  And dilute it to 1000.0ml with Carbon-dioxide-free water R.
6.6  Allow it to stand.
6.7  Decant the clear supernatant liquid, taking precautions to avoid the introduction of carbon dioxide.
