Standard operating procedure of Potassium iodide and starch solution.
1.0 OBJECTIVE:
To
lay down the procedure of Potassium
iodide and starch solution for Laboratory use.
2.0 SCOPE:
This
shall be applicable to the Quality Control Laboratory.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

5.0 MATERIAL AND
EQUIPMENT:
5.1
Glassware (one 100.0ml
beaker, one stirrer, one pipette).
5.2
Magnetic stirrer.
5.3
0.75g of potassium
iodide R.
5.4
0.5g of soluble
starch R.
5.5
Purified water q.s.
6.0 PROCEDURE:
6.1
Accurately weigh
0.75g of potassium iodide R and 0.5g of soluble starch R, by using weighing
balance.
6.2
Take a beaker of 100.0ml.
6.3
Add 0.75g of
potassium iodide R in it.
6.4
Mix it in 100.0ml of purified water by using magnetic
stirrer.
6.5
Heat to boiling and add whilst stirring a solution of 0.5g
of soluble starch R in 35.0ml of purified water.
6.6
Boil for 2 min and
allow it to cool.
