lay down the operating procedure of Fourier transformer infrared radiation (FTIR).

This
shall be applicable to the Fourier
transformer infrared radiation (FTIR) of Quality Control Instrument Laboratory.

5.0 MATERIAL AND
EQUIPMENT:

Fourier transformer infrared radiation (FTIR).
6.0 PROCEDURE:
6.1 “Switch
on” FTIR, Computer &
printer. Place sample plate (empty ) in sampling
compartment.
6.2 Double
click on software with the name of ²spectrum².
6.3 Login
window open, Enter login name, if
required otherwise click on ²O.K²
6.4 Spectrum
window open as graph. (X-axis, Y-axis).
6.5 BACKGROUND SCANING
6.5.1
Click on
“instrument” on tool bar.
6.5.2
Click on ²SCAN
BACK GROUND²
at first time only.
6.5.3
Scan back ground
window open, enter² FILE NAME² as BKG or other

Select “start
range”, “end range” as required for
scanning.

Select number of
scans (normally 6.4).

Window. Click on ²O.K ² Instrument start
automatically to scan back ground and open window for ²
Name ²
Enter name of file as required. i.e. BKG etc. and click on new name or
overwrite.
6.6 SAMPLE SCANING
6.6.1
Click on
instrument on tool bar. Then click on ² Scan sample²
6.6.2
Collect sample
plate from instrument sampling compartment.
6.6.3
Pour sample powder
/liquid on sample plate and press powder with spatula manually to ensure
complete filling.
6.6.4
Put sample plate
in sampling compartment carefully.
6.6.5
Put powder press
bar on sample plate and push lever down and screw the press bar to press the
powder uniformly and close the sampling compartment.

Click on²
instrument ²on
tool bar, then click on ² SCAN SAMPLE²

Scan sample window
open automatically.

file name box write the sample name and write in description box ²SAMPLE² ²RATIO ²
appear in window as ²SELECTED²

in the same window and new window appear automatically.

description box (if required).

6.6.13 Click

UP DATE²
again scan sample window appear, click on ² OK²,
Instrument automatically scan spectra and name window open. Write down the name
of file and click on new file or overwrite. Both spectra ² BACK GROUND
SPECTRUM ²
and ²SAMPLE
SPECTRA²
appear on the screen. Select ²BACK GROUND ²at bottom of the
screen and press ²DELETE². Back ground spectra
disappear from the screen.
6.6.14 Select
the sample spectra with ² CURSOR ² and double click
through mouse to optimize the spectrum.
6.6.15 Click
on label peak to label the peak.
6.6.16 Click
²ABC²
to add test in spectra i.e. name of the compound etc. Click print to print the
spectra.
6.7 PRECAUTION:
6.7.1
Preserve
instrument from moisture.
6.7.2
Instrument switch
on daily Basis.
6.7.3
Always clean the
instrument with dry lint free cloth.
6.7.4
Avoid placing body
parts in the path of light in sampling chamber.
6.7.5
Clean the sampling
plate with dry and moist tissue paper, dry it before use.
6.7.6
Change desiccators
after each six month and purge with nitrogen gas.
