Ethanol 96% aldehyde-free Reagent Preparation SOP

Title: Standard operating procedure of Ethanol 96% aldehyde-free preparation for laboratory use.

1.0  OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the procedure of Ethanol 96% aldehyde-free reagent for Laboratory use.
2.0  SCOPE:
This shall be applicable to the Quality Control Laboratory.
3.0  RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1  Q.C Pharmacist.
4.0  ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1  Manager-Quality Control.
4.2  Head of the Q.C Department.
5.0  MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:
5.1  Glassware (1000.0ml beaker, stirrer, 10.0ml pipette, funnel).
5.2  Filter paper.
5.3  Tripod stand.
5.4  Analytical weighing balance.
5.5  500.0ml of Ethanol 96%.
5.6  2.08ml of 4g/10ml solution of silver nitrate. (i.e. 40% w/v)
5.7  4.17ml of 5g/10ml solution of potassium hydroxide. (i.e. 50% w/v)
6.0  PROCEDURE:
6.1  Prepare solution of silver nitrate and solution of potassium hydroxide according to the requirement.
6.2  Take 1000.0ml beaker and add 500.0ml of ethanol 96% in it.
6.3  Add 2.08ml of a 4g/10ml solution of silver nitrate and 4.17ml of a cooled 5g/10ml solution of potassium hydroxide with the help of pipette.
6.4  Mix it thoroughly.
6.5  Shake and allow it to stand for few days.
6.6  Filter it by using filter paper and funnel.
6.7  Distill the filtrate immediately before use.
