ALUMINIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION Reagent Preparation SOP


Title:Standard operating procedure of Aluminium chloride solution preparation for laboratory use.

1.0  OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the procedure of Aluminium chloride solutionfor Laboratory use.
2.0  SCOPE:
This shall be applicable to the Quality Control Laboratory.
3.0  RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1  Q.C Pharmacist.
4.0  ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1  Manager-Quality Control.
4.2  Head of the Q.C Department.
5.0  MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:
5.1  Glassware (three 100.0ml beaker, one stirrer, one 10.0ml pipette).
5.2  Analytical weighing balance.
5.3  Magnetic stirrer.
5.4  Filter paper.
5.5  65.0g of Aluminium chloride.
5.6  0.5g of Activated charcoal.
5.7  1% w/v solution of sodium hydroxide. (i.e. 1g/100ml)
5.8  Purified water (q.s).
6.0  PROCEDURE:
6.1  Weigh 65.0g of aluminium chloride &0.5g of activated charcoal,operate analytical weighing balance according to SOP.
6.2  Prepare 1%w/v solution of sodium hydroxide separately in another beaker.
6.3  Take a beaker of 100.0ml.
6.4  Dissolve 65.0g of aluminum chloride in sufficient water and make up the volume up to 100.0ml with water.
6.5  Add 0.5g of the activated charcoal and stir for 10min by using magnetic stirrer.
6.6  Filter it by using filter paper, funnel and another beaker.
6.7  In filtrate add sufficient of a 1%w/v solution of sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH to about 1.5 (approx. 60.0ml is required).
