Hot plate stirrer Operational SOP



1.0  OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the operating procedure of hot plate stirrer.
2.0  SCOPE:
This shall be applicable to the hot plate stirrer of Quality Control Instrument Laboratory.
3.0  RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1  Technical Assistant/ Helper.
3.2  Q.C Analyst.
4.0  ACCOUNTABILITY:
4.1  Manager-Quality Control.
5.0  MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:
5.1  Hot plate stirrer 78-1.
6.0  PROCEDURE:
6.1  Check first if the spare parts are ready before using.
6.2  Ensure that the instrument is clean. Follow the SOP.
6.3  Put beaker containing solution to be heated in the center.
6.4  Put the power plug in the socket and switch it “ON”.
6.5  Put the magnet in the beaker or flask-containing sample, if needed.
6.6  Screw clockwise the knob to begin mixing.
6.7  Turn on the switch for heating, the light is on, heating is to begin.
6.8  Adjust the required temperature by temperature regulator, if needed.
6.9  After completion of mixing turn off the apparatus remove the sample and clean the hot plate with duster after cooling to room temperature.
6.10    Precautions:
6.10.1    Avoid direct contact with hot surfaces of hot plate during operation.
6.10.2    Speed of stirrer and heater should be controlled in order to avoid the splash and overheating of solution.
6.10.3    Never keep the heater in “ON” condition, when not in use.
6.10.4    For safety usage, please use plug with ground wire connection.
6.10.5    Cut off power first if the mixer were found stopped or jumping, checking whether the mixer and the beaker are in the middle of the hot plate. Then switch on the mixer, adjust the speed slowly.
6.10.6    Mixer speed should be adjusted from low to high clockwise slowly.
6.10.7    No heating the plate for long time.
6.10.8    Cut off power and turn the speed to lowest point while finished mixing.
6.10.9    Keep the machine away from leakage of solutions.
6.10.10Keep in dry places.
